    Engineering alumni on the right track , video

    With Maryland's Purple Line set to open in late 2027, two Virginia Tech College of Engineering alumni are in pivotal roles keeping the project on track. Civil and environmental alumni Martha Gross '10, '11, executive director of Transit Development and Delivery at Maryland Transit Administration, and Doran Bosso '06, '08, chief executive officer of Purple Line Transit Partners LLC., credit their Virginia Tech education in preparing them to work on this massive project that will transform transit in Maryland.

    On a bitterly cold day in 2019, a filly entered the world fighting for her life. With the help of the Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center, she survived and became a successful racehorse. On one of the coldest mornings of 2026, her filly was in need of similar help.

    The university will test select elements of the VT Alerts emergency notification system on Wednesday in some university facilities in Blacksburg and in Academic Building One in Alexandria. The test will occur between 6 and 7 a.m.
