Graduate School Commencement
Fall 2024 Commencement and
D.C. Area Reception
Graduating students have the option to attend the university’s official Commencement in Blacksburg on Friday, December 20, 2024.
Graduating students in the Washington, D.C., metro area also have the option to attend the Graduate Recognition Ceremony and Reception on Monday, December 16, 2024. Due to space limitations for the Graduate Recognition Ceremony, the number of guests will be restricted.
The Graduate Recognition Ceremony is NOT an official Commencement ceremony; this event is specifically to honor students in the D.C. area and our online programs. If you have any additional questions about the D.C. area Recognition Ceremony, please email dcgradschool@vt.edu.

Official Regalia
For the D.C. area Graduate Recognition Ceremony, academic regalia is encouraged for graduates and faculty, but not required; business attire is an acceptable alternative. The last day to order your Cap and Gown online is Wednesday, November 20, 2024. Orders placed after this date may incur additional fees. Doctoral Regalia is ordered on a 6-week timeline and can be expidited up to 3-weeks.
Note: The same regalia would be appropriate for the Commencement ceremony in Blacksburg. Regalia is required, if you plan to attend that ceremony.
