In the greater Washington, D.C., area, Virginia Tech offers more than 40 graduate degree and certificate programs taught by internationally recognized faculty. About 1,000 students are enrolled in programs in the region, some 250 students are Ph.D. candidates.

The Virginia Tech Graduate School in the greater Washington, D.C., area offers unparalleled resources for study across an exciting variety of academic programs, with seminars, events, and world-class cultural experiences.

The university's three teaching locations, Academic Building One in Potomac Yard, the Washington-Alexandria Architecture Center in Old Town Alexandria, and the Virginia Tech Research Center - Arlington in Ballston, are easily accessible by Metro.

Virginia residents may also take classes as Commonwealth Campus students without being formally admitted to a degree program.

Virginia Tech continually adds new degree and certificate programs to its graduate curriculum to serve emerging needs of government, industry, and nonprofit agencies.

The Greater Washington D.C. Area Graduate School Office, located on the fourth floor of the Northern Virginia Center, Falls Church, is a satellite office of the Graduate School on the main campus in Blacksburg and handles academic and administrative matters, such as Graduate Education Week, student workshops, student medical insurance, in-state or out-of-state classification, and changing departments or graduate programs in the Greater Washington D.C. Area.

Student Services

Counseling is available to all D.C. area students through Virginia Tech’s Cook Counseling Center. Appointments will be offered in person or via telehealth.

What We Offer: Cook Connect evaluation session, Individual Counseling, Group Counseling, Campus Outreach, Crisis Consultation, and Psychiatry

Who We Are: Cook Counseling Center is a safe place for graduate students to discuss their personal concerns, when they feel stuck and are experiencing a high degree of distress. 

We are here for you to talk whenever life or school gets to be overwhelming.

VT Career and Professional Development (Blacksburg campus) is now able to offer career advising appointments to the Greater Washington DC Area students. ​
