Become an ambassador

The D.C. area Student Ambassador Team is a volunteer group of exceptional graduate students who serve as representatives for Virginia Tech in the D.C. area, the Graduate School, their college, and the university. Ambassadors build their leadership skills, interact with faculty, staff, prospective students, alumni, and the wider community, and can learn creative ways to apply their knowledge while providing an essential service to the D.C. area.

Q. Are Student Ambassadors paid to give tours?

A. D.C. area Student Ambassadors are not paid to give tours. 


Q. What kind of time commitment is required to be in Student Ambassadors?

A. Modeled after the Hokie Ambassadors program, a new member of the D.C. area Student Ambassadors would typically be required to make a minimum time commitment of about 15 hours during their first semester in the organization. New members must participate in training sessions, complete an evaluation tour, and give at least one regular tour during their first semester.

After your first semester in D.C. area Student Ambassadors, a member would typically be required to make a minimum time commitment of about 15 hours per semester. Members are required to attend general monthly meetings, participate in  future open house events and give several tours per semester. 

The inaugural training session is currently TBD but will occur between January 13-17, depending on the availability of the interested students.


Q. Why would someone want to volunteer to be a tour guide?

A. Student tour guides live and breathe Virginia Tech. They love to share their enthusiasm and love of Virginia Tech with others. D.C. area Student Ambassadors will learn more than they ever imagined possible about Virginia Tech. The communications skills you build while being a Student Ambassador are extremely useful and look great to prospective employers.
