Senator Mark Warner

Senator Mark Warner (D) was first elected to the United States Senate in 2008, and he currently serves as Virginia's senior senator. He serves on the Senate's Finance, Banking, Budget, Rules, and Intelligence (Chairman) committees. Prior to his election as U.S. Senator, Mark Warner served as the Governor of Virginia from 2002-2006.


Senator Tim Kaine

Senator Tim Kaine (D) was elected to the United States Senate in 2012. He serves on the Senate's Armed Services, Budget, and Foreign Relations committees. Senator Kaine also serves on the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions. Prior to his election as U.S. Senator, Tim Kaine served as the Governor of Virginia from 2006-2010.


Representative Rob Wittman

Representative Rob Wittman (R) has represented the 1st Congressional District of Virginia since December 2007. He is a member of the Committee on Armed Services. Congressman Wittman is also a member of the Committee on Natural Resources. He is the Cochairman of the Congressional Shipbuilding Caucus and Cochairman of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed Caucus. Interns from the 1st Congressional District are preferred.

The 1st Congressional District is located in the eastern portion of the state and includes Caroline, Essex, Gloucester, King George, King William, King and Queen, Lancaster, Mathews, Middlesex, Northumberland, Stafford, Westmoreland, and York counties. It also includes Fredericksburg city. Areas of Fauquier, James City, Prince William and Spotsylvania counties also lie within district boundaries. The district is steeped in military culture with several military installations within its borders. Along with the Department of Defense, NASA is a major employer in the district. The district borders the Chesapeake Bay and has a major commercial seafood industry. With its national parks and many historic areas combined with the natural resources of the Chesapeake Bay, tourism is also a thriving industry in the 1st District.


Representative Jennifer Kiggans (Pending)

Representative Kiggans (R) was elected to represent the 2nd Congressional District of Virginia on November 8, 2022. Congresswoman Kiggan’s committee assignments include Armed Services, Natural Resources, and Veterans' Affairs.

The 2nd Congressional District includes Virginia Beach, the Eastern Shore, part of Chesapeake and Southampton, Isle of Wight, Suffolk, and Franklin City. The district’s economy includes a significant military presence, a thriving tourism industry, agriculture, and manufacturing. The 2nd District is also home to NASA’S Wallops Flight Facility.


Representative Robert C. “Bobby” Scott

Representative Bobby Scott has represented the 3rd Congressional District of Virginia since 1993. He is a member of the Committee on the Budget. Congressman Scott is the Chairman of the Committee on Education and Labor, which has jurisdiction over higher education.

Virginia's 3rd Congressional District is a includes the cities of Franklin, Newport News, and Portsmouth, parts of the cities of Chesapeake, Hampton, Norfolk, and Suffolk, and all of the county of Isle of Wight. The district's economy has a mixed concentration of jobs in educational services, health care, manufacturing, and retail trade. The district also continues to play an important role in America's maritime and military history.


Representative Ben Cline

Representative Cline (R) has represented the 6th Congressional District of Virginia since January 2019. Congressman Cline serves on the Committee on Appropriations and the Committee on the Budget.

Virginia's 6th Congressional District is very diverse covering all or part of Warren, Shenandoah, Page, Rockingham, Highland, Augusta, Bath, Bedford, Rockbridge, Botetourt, Roanoke and Amherst Counties along with the cities of Harrisonburg, Staunton, Waynesboro, Lexington, Buena Vista, Lynchburg and Roanoke. The main industry in the district is agriculture, especially apple and turkey farming. With several national parks within the district, tourism is also a major industry. Thousands of visitors come to hike, canoe, camp, or enjoy many of the district's historic and scenic areas. The 6th District is also home to a large number of colleges and universities.


Representative Don Beyer

Representative Don Beyer (D) represents the 8th Congressional District of Virginia. He has served in Congress since January 2015. Congressman Beyer is a member the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. He is also a member of the Committee on Ways and Means. Interns from the 8th Congressional District are required.

The 8th District is located in the heart of Northern Virginia. The district includes the cities of Alexandria and Falls Church, Arlington County, and portions of Fairfax County. Like the neighboring 10th District, the 8th District is home to thousands of federal employees and is an area known as a hub for federal research and development. With the Pentagon located within its borders, the 8th District is also home to a booming high-tech sector, especially in the defense industry.


Representative Morgan Griffith

Representative Morgan Griffith (R) represents the 9th Congressional District of Virginia, including Blacksburg and Virginia Tech. He has represented the 9th Congressional District since January 2011. He is a member of the Committee on Energy and Commerce. Interns from the 9th Congressional District are preferred.

The 9th Congressional District is located in Southwest Virginia, parts of the Allegany Highlands and Southside Virginia. The district includes the cities of Bristol, Galax, Radford, Norton, and portions of Roanoke. For generations the backbone of the 9th district's economy was in farming, coal mining and textiles. The coal industry is still a powerful driver of the district's economy. Facing the challenges of a changing economy the 9th District is looking to strengthen its economy through the development of new export markets for the products of Southwest Virginia, for example, agricultural products, notably forest products. With its beautiful scenery, recreational areas and low cost of living the district is working to attract smaller high-tech firms, international businesses, and increase tourism.


Representative Jennifer Wexton (Pending)

Representative Jennifer Wexton (D) represents the 10 Congressional District of Virginia. She has represented the 10th Congressional District since 2019. She is a member of the Committee on Appropriations and the Committee on the Budget.

The 10th Congressional District is in Northern Virginia and includes Leesburg, Ashburn, Manassas, Sterling, and Sperryville. The largest industries are manufacturing, professional, scientific, and technical services, health care, transportation and warehousing, accommodations, food services, and retail trade.


Representative Gerry Connolly

Representative Gerry Connolly (D) represents the 11th Congressional District of Virginia. He has represented the 10th Congressional District of Virginia since January 2009. Congressman Connolly is a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs. He is also a member of the Committee on Oversight and Reform. Interns from the 11th Congressional District are preferred.

The 11th District encompasses the City of Fairfax, most of Fairfax County and most of Prince William County. The district includes the towns of Herndon, Dumfries, Occoquan, and Vienna. The district is home to thousands of federal employees and members of the armed forces. Industries in the district include construction, manufacturing, retail trade, finance, insurance, real estate, educational services, health care, accommodation and food service. The 11th District is considered one of the wealthiest districts in the nation.

The firm provides representation in a number of areas, including litigation, business, real estate, governmental law, the environment, transportation, and public policy and regulation. The internship position is located in the Washington, D.C., office and is focused on government relations.

Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress

The Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress (CSPC) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit policy and education think tank that studies and applies leadership lessons from past experiences in American history to critical national challenges and opportunities facing America today. Center internships offer students the opportunity to learn firsthand about domestic and international issues confronting the Presidency and Congress today. Intern responsibilities may include: working with experienced policymakers and former government officials; conducting research; helping to organize meetings with executive and legislative officials, the media, and others; and assisting with conferences, publications and other outreach efforts. The Center's office is located in Washington, D.C.

Potomac Advocates is a leading Washington-based consulting and governmental relations firm. The firm provides comprehensive and cost-effective services to some of the world’s largest corporations, small and medium sized businesses, and individuals. Interns will learn to document Department of Defense budget materials and provide for client use budget justification items along with detailed budget tracking; performing comprehensive analysis of Congressional Appropriations/Authorization markups, and current policy developments related to specific client demands or on-going client requirements; providing input to several Potomac Advocates weekly reports on different facets of the intelligence and defense industry; attending House & Senate committee hearings to provide information relevant to client interests; answering the office phone and inquiring about caller's needs.
